The Palatine Police & Fire Benevolent Association (PPFBA) in seeking your support for one of our own Palatine Police officers. The Palatine Police & Fire Benevolent Association is a 501c3 organization with a mission to promote and provide for the general welfare and common good of Village of Palatine employees and residents through charitable activities and support.

The PPFBA is hosting a fundraiser for the Dahlem family on March 21, 2019, at Oak Alley Saloon. Mark Dahlem was a 23 year veteran of the Palatine Police Department who bravely battled brain cancer before losing that fight on February 5, 2019.  Mark’s wife, Kim Dahlem, grew up in Palatine and attended Palatine High School. Kim worked in District 211 for years and now serves in the Crystal Lake High School District. Mark & Kim have two children, Abby (16) and Jack (10).

Mark was diagnosed with brain cancer in November 2017. Mark had surgery to remove the presenting tumor and followed up with radiation and chemotherapy treatments. Mark returned to work late last year, before he found out there were additional tumors present. Mark had a second brain surgery in December 2018.  After this surgery, treatment was not working to fight the cancer.  The cancer had spread and the medical staffs at Duke and Northwestern were unable to present a treatment plan that would have any success.  Mark, and his family, ultimately made the choice to enter hospice and it is there he ended his battle with cancer, passing away on February 5 with family and friends at his side.

The Dahlem fundraiser will take place on Thursday, March 21, 2019 at Oak Alley in Palatine from 3-8 pm.  All money raised from this event will go to support the future educational needs of Abby and Jack.  Mark served the community for over 23 years, it is our turn to return the favor and assist the Dahlem family in helping with the educations of Abby and Jack.  Tickets to attend will cost $30 per person. The cost includes open bar and pizza. In the spirit of charity, camaraderie, and community, the Palatine Police and Fire Benevolent Association was established in 2007 with the following mission:

“The Palatine Police and Fire Benevolent Association is a non-profit, all-volunteer organization formed as an outlet for Palatine police officers and firefighters to give back to the community in which we serve.  Our focus is to provide financial assistance (within our means) to community members in times of tragedy and crises.  The Association raises money by organizing and/or participating in various events throughout the year with the ultimate goal of assisting others in need.”
